Jay Hellings

Gestalt Therapist in advance training • UKCP member

Gestalt Therapy is present-centred. We can still talk about what has happened, or might happen, out there in your life. Alongside that, I will bring our attention to what is happening here, in the interaction between you and me. That's where we can learn about your way of being in the world and how that shapes your life. If you choose to, you can harness your own creativity here to find ways of living that are more satisfying, more grounded, more vital.

What is Gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic, person-centred approach that focuses on the whole of your experience — thoughts, feelings, sensations, and the way you relate to the world around you. Rather than analysing the past at a distance, Gestalt invites you to explore what is alive and present for you right now, in a supportive and non-judgemental relationship with your therapist.

This is not a prescriptive or technique-driven therapy. Instead, it is a collaborative, creative conversation that respects your own wisdom and your unique way of being in the world.

Present-centred awareness

We gently explore what is happening for you now — your feelings, body sensations, and thoughts — rather than working from a fixed agenda.

Relationship at the heart

The therapeutic relationship itself becomes a place of real contact and healing. You will never feel like a case study; you will feel met as a person.

Your own pace

There is no pressure to talk about anything before you are ready. We follow your lead, and sessions can be as open or as focused as you need.

Holistic and embodied

Gestalt recognises that the mind and body are not separate. We welcome all of you into the room — including the things that are hard to put into words.

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy

People come to Therapy at Kindness for many different reasons. Some are navigating a specific difficulty; others simply sense that something is not quite right and want space to explore it. Whatever brings you, you are welcome.
